June 06, 2022

Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists (NWOS) in Spokane has invested in two new technologies for robotic-assisted knee replacement surgeries – the Stryker Mako SmartRobotics™ Surgery System and the Depuy VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution.

Robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery is now available by select NWOS Orthopaedic Knee Surgeons in the NWOS Ambulatory Orthopaedic Surgery Center on Fifth Avenue in downtown Spokane.

Robotic-Assisted Surgery Technology assists NWOS surgeons in select partial and total knee replacement surgery cases. These advanced technologies take into account each person's unique anatomy for greater precision, faster recovery, and the best possible outcomes. “Treatment of knee arthritis with total knee replacement surgery has been proven to improve patient quality of life. Over the decades, this intervention has evolved. Not only are the implants improved, but the surgical technique and the perioperative care has been refined.” Said Dr. Kirk Reichard, Orthopedic Surgeon and Joint Replacement Specialist at NWOS, “This evolution has been gradual and I feel that robotics may prove to give us another incremental advancement. As orthopedic surgeons, we enjoy data and applying that data to our patient's care. Utilization of a robotic platform allows us to intraoperatively analyze the knee replacement in real-time. We have always tailored surgery to our patients’ unique needs, but I am hopeful that these additional technologies will help us further advance knee replacement surgery.”

The demand for joint replacements is high and expected to continue to rise in the next decade. The popularity comes as no surprise given that a joint replacement enables a patient to be mobile and even active despite advanced arthritis. The team at Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists is honored to get to help their patients continue to live an active life, and they will continue to invest in the best technologies and education to keep the Spokane community moving. “We are proud to be able to continue to offer our patients the most advanced orthopedic care available. With cutting edge technologies, outpatient service, and a skilled, compassionate team, our ambulatory surgery center is offering patients in the Pacific Northwest a level of care not found anywhere else,” said Quinanna Robins, CEO of Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists. “The addition of robotic technology to our services further demonstrates our commitment to provide the community with exceptional orthopedic care.”
