Operation Walk USA provides free joint replacements for people in need

SPOKANE, Wash. (Jan. 17, 2014) – Drs. Jonathan P. Keeve and A. Kirk Reichard of Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists provided a free joint replacement procedure to a local patient in need in December through their participation in Operation Walk USA.
An independent medical humanitarian organization, Operation Walk USA allowed these two surgeons to provide a free joint replacement procedure during the month of December to a patient who does not qualify for government assistance programs and cannot afford surgery on his or her own.
“Operation Walk USA requires strict protocols for choosing patients for these procedures who derive the greatest benefit from reconstructive surgery,” Dr. Keeve says. “Through our participation in the program, we hope to help residents return to work and other activities with very few limitations.”
In its fourth year, Operation Walk USA provided assistance for approximately 230 joint replacement operations for patients in need across the country, with surgeons and hospital staff members donating their time and services. This is the first year Drs. Keeve and Reichard have participated.
