Knee Pain

The knee is one of the largest and most complex joints in the body, as well as a very hardworking joint. When you're walking, running, or even just standing, your knee depends on a intricate system of bones, ligaments, cartilage, muscles, and nerves. It is central to nearly all everyday activities, but that also means it is vulnerable to injury and a lot of wear-and-tear. If an injury, arthritis, or another condition is causing pain or discomfort in any of the parts of your knee, you may need to have your knee evaluated by a specialized orthopedic provider.

Pain in the knee can be the result of a condition that has developed over time or from overuse like osteoarthritis, arthritis, and Runner’s knee. It can also be from the occurrence of a recent sports injury, such as a meniscus tear or dislocated kneecap. In some circumstances, if the injury is not identified early on, conditions such as knee arthritis may create extreme bone and joint discomfort, making knee surgery, such as knee replacement, total knee arthroplasty, or knee arthroscopy, possible options to relieving your knee pain. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms of knee pain, it’s important to seek treatment as soon as possible before your knee injury or condition worsens:

  • A popping or snapping noise in or around the knee
  • Feeling like your knee gave out while walking, running, jumping, or turning
  • Severe joint pain, pain in the knee, pain in the kneecap, or pain behind the knee
  • Inability to bend or move the knee
  • Limping or are unable to walk comfortably
  • Swelling of the knee, joint, or calf area

Preparing for My Appointment & New Patient Forms

“My husband had shoulder surgery several years ago and a few knee problems from football injuries. When my knees began to bother me I checked in with his doctor at Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists. I have had one arthroscopic surgery to repair the meniscus and they found I had arthritis in both knees. It has been seven years and the old knees are crazy sometimes, but so far I have avoided total knee replacement with a regular oil change" as Dr. Kody puts it. I am unable to take anti-inflammatory medications and I can't tolerate cortisone so I am profoundly grateful for the help I have received from Dr. Kody and his staff. Thank you all so much.” — Karen V.

“I was having pain in my right knee and Dr. Olson performed surgery on my knee and now the pain is gone.” — Dennis S.

Dr. Keeve has been taking care of my right knee pain since 2000. He has now done three separate surgeries on my knee to try and keep me as active as possible. He has always looked out for my best interest and my family's. He has never recommended anything that was not needed and is trying his hardest to keep me from having to need a total knee replacement at a young age. I truly appreciate him and all the staff at NWOS.” — Amy K.

“Suffered severe pain in right knee for many years; it became impossible to bear, I am 73 and delayed it due to being diabetic. Finally the day came and surgery went flawlessly. Spent 5 days at extended care center, and the caregivers were amazed at the appearance of my knee and my progress. I received at home care for about a month. The visiting nurse who first saw my knee said wow, you have little swelling, no redness and no bruising, and the incision looks great." I would recommend Dr. Wallace & NWOS to anyone.” — Gloria M.

“I had been living a life full of pain, discomfort, and frustration causing me to limit the activities that I love to do: basketball, running, and even playing with my kids. I had injured my knee almost 12 years ago and had been misdiagnosed—and misguided—for years, and spent countless hours spent doing rehab on an injury that couldn't possibly have been rehabilitated. I finally went into Dr. Kody, and he actually listened to me. He took the time to understand all of different pieces of information I had been given throughout the years and made his diagnosis. I have been so pleased with my decision to go and see Dr. Kody. I am looking forward to participating in all of the activities I love to do! Thank you so much!!” — Adam J.

“It was with great pleasure that I was referred to Dr. Kody this summer for evaluation and treatment of increasing knee pain following an ACL repair 10 years prior. Dr. Kody performed a knee arthroscopy that included a notchplasty, chondroplasty and debridement of a cyclops lesion that had formed in front of my graft. I came to Dr. Kody fearing the worst and have left surgery (once healed and strength regained) with my knee feeling happier" than it has in many, many years. It was an incredible privilege to work with Dr. Kody and the entire practice at Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists. Everyone, and I reiterate, everyone that I had contact with from scheduling, to pre-op, anesthesiology, to post-op nurses to Dr. Kody's PA treated me with kindness, efficiency and professionalism. This practice runs as a finely tuned and well-oiled machine that simply works". Thank you Dr. Kody for your kindness, skill and precision. I am doing great and am on my way full activity and I feel very fortunate to have Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists on my team.” — Susie D.
