Please Welcome Our Four Newest Orthopedic Specialists to NWOS
The team at Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists is continuously growing our practice and knowledge to stay up to date on the latest medical advances. As recognized leaders in the Northwest for orthopedics, we strive to have the best members on the team by choosing doctors we know our patients will love and are genuinely good people. The four talented physicians we introduce here bring all of those qualities and more.
Please help us welcome Dr. Jessica Kohring, Dr. Brett Mulawka, Dr. Patrick Soto, and Dr. Rob Stewart to the NWOS family. They are all new to our practice and two are new to the Spokane Community. We are excited to have them join us and for our patients to have these experts available to them.
Jessica M. Kohring, M.D.
Dr. Kohring grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. She is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon and one of just a few female orthopedic surgeons in the Spokane-area. Dr. Kohring specializes in surgery of the foot and ankle and general orthopedic trauma. Dr. Kohring completed her undergraduate degree at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC in 2007 where she graduated with honors and a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Exercise Science. She then attended medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Aurora, CO and graduated in 2013. After medical school, Dr. Kohring completed her Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. She completed her Foot and Ankle Orthopedic Fellowship at the University of Rochester in New York.
After living in multiple areas of the country, Dr. Kohring chose Spokane because of the opportunity to join an excellent orthopedic group with a great reputation and wonderful people and a beautiful location. She was connected to NWOS through a co-resident at the University of Utah who knew NWOS specialist, Dr. Keeve, who’s a world-class orthopedic specialist. Thanks for the high praise and for joining the NWOS team, Dr. Kohring!

Brett Mulawka, M.D.
Dr. Mulawka joins us from Massachusetts where he finished his orthopedic fellowship at Harvard in total joint replacement. Dr. Mulawka’s orthopedic journey began at the University of Wisconsin. He graduated with a degree in Biomedical Engineering and worked in stem cell research and engineering. He attended medical school at the University of Minnesota, then did a year-long internship at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation where he also completed his residency. During his residency, Dr. Mulawka received the Orthopaedic Resident Academic Achievement of the Year.
Coming from Minnesota, Dr. Mulawka had traveled west for past winter ski trips. He grew to enjoy the mountains and outdoors while dreaming of moving to the mountain ranges of the west. Being used to the vast number of lakes of Minnesota, Dr. Mulawka found Spokane was comparable proximity to water and the mountains. After several travels to the area where he met friendly people and took in the beautiful sites, choosing Spokane was an easy decision. We are honored to have Dr. Mulawka, an individual with immense knowledge and passion for the industry, on the NWOS team.

Dr. Soto felt blessed to be invited to join the team and say it was an easy decision to join such a great organization.
Dr. Soto began his medical journey in 1999 at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 2004. The field of orthopedics is broad. Orthopedic physicians specialize in the musculoskeletal system and many orthopedists specialize in certain areas of the body, such as foot and ankle, hand and wrist, or back, neck, and spine. Or, these orthopedic doctors may focus on a specific field such as pediatrics, sports medicine, or trauma.
The team at Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists strives to be recognized as orthopedic leaders in the Northwest and experts in the medical field. We are excited to grow our practice and our knowledge through the addition of these talented surgeons.
